Spotted Horse Vineyards and Winery.
Spotted Horse Vineyards began in 2004 with 500 grapevine cuttings. In 2006, we added 600 grapevine plants and 250 cuttings. We currently have nearly three acres of grapevines made up of six varieties: Edelweiss, LaCrosse, Concord, Catawba, Niagra, and St. Pepin. The varieties were selected carefully to withstand our Midwest winters.
In 2008, we started work on our tasting room. It will be located in a renovated barn. There you will be able to sample our wines and purchase your favorites. We currently carry 9 varities of wine including Apple, Bee Hopeful, Dandelion, Elderberry, Lacrosse, Pear, Sparkling Mead, St Peppin and Rhubarb. Eventually the tasting room will be available for wedding receptions and private parties.
In the fall of 2008 we had our first grape harvest, totaling around 100 gallons of juice. Soon to be released grape varieties include Edelweiss, Concord, and Catawba.
Spotted Horse Vineyards is located in Arcadia, Iowa, on the Missouri-Mississippi Divide. We are approximately two hours from Omaha, Sioux City, or Des Moines. Take Highway 30 to the Arcadia exit. Go two miles north, then turn east at 170th Street and drive 1/8 mile.
